A new partnership between GoGoX and the National Delivery Champions Association aims to uplift the well-being and skills of Singapore’s platform workers.
The National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GoGoX, an operator in the logistics platform sphere. This MOU is set to bolster the framework of support surrounding driver-partners, addressing imperative protections and rights of platform workers.
This MOU mirrors recommendations by The Tripartite Workgroup on Representation for Platform Workers. It places a spotlight on the need for occupational safeguards such as work injury compensation and channels for representing the voice of platform employees in matters that affect them.
One pillar of the MOU is the development of driver-partners’ skills, facilitated through a training program backed by SkillsFuture Singapore. Here, platform workers are encouraged to advance in areas including customer service, health and well-being, and safe driving practices.
GoGoX has promised to recognize the upcoming Platform Worker Representative Body, solidifying its commitment to constructive collaborations. Incentives for driver-partners to engage in this upskilling endeavor include a one-time training allowance of $50 driver credits and $30 fuel rebates, to mitigate driver-partners’ loss of income when attending training. In addition, NDCA will sponsor one month of Association membership and provide $20 worth of FairPrice vouchers to driver-partners who attend the training programme.
The partnership is set to initiate regular dialogues between GoGoX and NDCA, carving out a space for issues specific to driver-partners to be brought to the forefront. These engagements are anticipated to foster occupational enhancements and social connections within the community.
NDCA’s advocacy role for platform workers get highlighted with the signing of the MOU, which was carried out by its Executive Secretary, Jean See, and GoGoX Managing Director for Singapore, Patrick Wong.
NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong praised the move, recognizing the criticality of skill improvement for long-term professional growth among platform workers and promising ongoing action to underpin worker interests through the trilateral synergy of organizations, operators, and government agencies.
GoGoX’s Patrick Wong outlined the MOU’s significance in sealing their dedication to worker welfare. The initiative is seen as a key to bridging the skills gap that will empower workers to deliver superior services and instill pride in their role in a digitalized economy.
NDCA’s President Goh Yong Wei expressed enthusiasm about the positive collaboration, signalling it as a testament to a shared vision for supporting the professional and personal growth of delivery partners. This collaboration represents a forward leap, showing how partnerships can tangibly influence the landscape of platform employment regulations.
