The National Museum of Singapore is hosting an exhibition, now till 23 June 24, that will change how we think about plastic. “Plastic: Remaking Our World” offers a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the world of plastic, its impact on our environment, and creative ways to recycle it. With over 300 items on display, including posters, films, and photographs, this exhibition showcases Singapore’s history with plastic.
The exhibition is divided into three main parts. First, you have the chance to catch the film “Kalpa” by Asif Khan Studio, which highlights the stark contrast between the formation of oil and the accumulation of plastic waste. It’s a thought-provoking exploration of the consequences of our plastic consumption.
Next, visitors can delve into global design trends and witness how plastic has evolved from the 1850s to the present. Through exhibitions like “Synthetica,” “Petromodernity,” and “Plasticene: Plastics from 1850 until Today,” you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of how plastic has become such a ubiquitous material in our lives.
The exhibition also aims to inspire meaningful conversations about sustainable plastic management. The “Re-:” section focuses on creating a circular loop for plastic recycling, encouraging visitors to explore innovative ways to use plastic more intelligently. In this section, you’ll find a sorting zone where you can learn about different types of plastic and an injection machine that transforms plastic into practical household items.
Step outside the museum to discover “Plastics in Our Lives,” an interactive space replicating a home environment. This immersive experience illuminates the extent to which plastic is intertwined with our daily lives.
The Green Detective’s Challenge offers an engaging, on-site, gamified experience for those looking to test their recycling knowledge. Participate in this challenge and see how much you know about living sustainably and reducing plastic waste.
