Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, has made history as the world’s first private owner of the Hongqi L5, China’s most expensive luxury car.
During a meeting on April 12, Sultan Ibrahim proudly shared photos of the retro-styled car with Ouyang Yujing, the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia.
Manufactured by FAW Group and revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2013, the L5 has earned its reputation as the priciest Chinese-made car ever available, with a price tag of five million yuan (approximately S$940,375). Notably, the Hongqi L5 also serves as the official state car of China and is utilized by President Xi Jinping.
In China, the Hongqi L5 is a supremely high-end limousine, boasting a social status that surpasses even renowned luxury brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Owning a Hongqi L5 signifies wealth and a prestigious social standing, making it a symbol of honor. As of now, this sedan can only be found exclusively in China.
The meeting between Sultan Ibrahim and the Chinese Ambassador revolved around crucial bilateral relations and contemporary issues of mutual concern between Malaysia and China.
In a social media post on April 12, the King expressed the significance of China as a powerful global economic influence and a significant trading partner for Malaysia. Sultan Ibrahim held high hopes for Malaysia’s ability to leverage its unique strengths to reap benefits, increase trade volume, promote technology exchange, and further expand exports to China.
The King also expressed his desire for increased Chinese investments in Malaysia, as such collaborations would generate more job opportunities for Malaysians.
Other distinguished individuals attending the meeting included FAW Hongqi Global President Wang Lingyu, Genting Group Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, and the Founder and President of the VXL Group of Companies, Datuk Lim Chee Wah.
