Following a food poisoning event that resulted in 19 individuals experiencing symptoms of gastroenteritis, four of whom required hospitalization, the food hygiene status of Minum Kopi Café & Bakery in Bedok has been reduced from Grade B to C, effective from June 7. The downgrade comes in the wake of an incident on October 15, 2023, after customers consumed food from the establishment located at Block 213 Bedok North Street 1. The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), who announced the downgrade, will also maintain ongoing surveillance of the bakery’s operations.
An investigation launched by MOH and SFA into the incident disclosed several lapses in hygiene at the site during an inspection conducted on October 19, 2023. These findings prompted enforcement actions by the SFA, aiming to address and rectify the identified shortcomings. The incident has led to a scheduled review of the bakery’s food hygiene grade in 12 months.
In light of this situation, food service providers have been urged to strictly adhere to established food safety and hygiene protocols. Emphasizing the importance of basic hygiene practices, such as hand washing before food handling, could significantly minimize the risk of gastroenteritis.
