A tragic event unfolded on the Seletar Expressway (SLE) on June 4, taking the life of a young Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer during a pursuit. 26-year-old Zdulfika Ahakasah was engaged and had his wedding planned for next month, a dream that will now sadly remain unfulfilled.
Zdulfika had been in a relationship with his fiancée for nearly five years, sharing plans and dreams for their future together. His passing came as a devastating blow to his fiancée and his family, who were eagerly anticipating the celebration. According to Zdulfika’s elder brother, Radin Ilahi Ahakasah, the distressing news of Zdulfika’s accident was communicated to him by their sister around 11 a.m., leading to immediate rushes to the hospital only to find that Zdulfika had already passed away.
The loss deeply affected his family, with his fiancée especially taking it hard, struggling to cope with the grief. Radin recounted the heartbreaking scene at the hospital where their mother was pleading for her son’s life, an emotional testament to a mother’s love.
Zdulfika, remembered fondly by his oldest sister Siti Werdanengsy, was the joy of the family. His happy-go-lucky nature, ever-present smile, and calm demeanor made him loved by all who knew him. His decision to spend his life serving as an enforcement officer, following stints in the police and Aetos, reflected his dedication to his community.
The details surrounding the tragic accident emerged when video footage showed Zdulfika in hot pursuit of a motorcyclist, an 18-year-old now in custody facing multiple charges, along the SLE towards the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE). The crash involved not only the motorcycle but also two lorries and a van, leading to Zdulfika’s untimely death.
Zdulfika’s wake was planned to be held at his family home in Ang Mo Kio on June 5, providing a space for friends, family, and colleagues to come together in remembrance of a life that brought so much light to others yet was cut far too short.
As the community mourns, details of the incident remind us of the risks law enforcement officers face daily. Zdulfika’s commitment to his duty ended tragically, but his memory and the impact of his work endure.
