A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of June 8, when a 31-year-old motorcyclist from Singapore lost his life in a traffic collision on the Second Link bridge heading towards Johor Bahru. The accident took place at the 16-kilometer mark around midnight.
Local Malaysian news sources, including China Press, report that the rider was traveling on his Yamaha motorbike when a Proton Saga vehicle, executing a U-turn, collided with him. The impact was so severe that it caused the motorcycle to burst into flames, resulting in the instantaneous death of the motorcyclist at the scene of the accident, as confirmed by the Oriental Daily News.
Miraculously, the 33-year-old driver of the Proton Saga and his 40-year-old passenger emerged from the accident unharmed.
Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) took to Facebook to alert commuters that departure clearance at Tuas Checkpoint was temporarily suspended due to the ongoing investigation and emergency response to the accident on the Second Link bridge. The ICA updated later, at approximately 1:00 am, that the accident had been cleared up and that normal traffic flow had resumed on all lanes.
Footage of the aftermath was shared on the Singapore Roads Accident.com Facebook page, showing the motorbike engulfed in flames and the white car with significant damage on the roadway. In the video, a figure is seen lying on the pavement, and vehicles are at a halt in two out of the three lanes.
Emergency services responded promptly, with seven firefighters from the Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station dispatched to the scene at 12:12 am. Upon extinguishing the blaze, officials handed over the motorcyclist’s remains to the police for further proceedings.
