In a concerning incident on the evening of July 14th, a child experienced a frightening accident when his foot, clad in footwear similar to Crocs, became lodged in an escalator at Jurong Point shopping mall.
Eyewitnesses shared visuals of the episode on social media, capturing the intense moments as the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) worked diligently on the spot. An image circulating on Reddit depicted a brightly colored sandal, resembling Crocs, wedged between the steps of the escalator—a stark reminder of how quickly such accidents can occur.
The SCDF confirmed they were summoned to the scene at 1 Jurong West Central 2 around 7:45 pm. They utilized specialized rescue gear to extricate the young boy’s foot successfully. Following his liberation from the escalator, he was promptly transported to the National University Hospital for treatment.
This event echoes a similar mishap that occurred earlier in July 2023 when a six-year-old suffered a dislocated toe at Botanic Gardens MRT station. That case also involved Crocs-like footwear becoming ensnared by an escalator, underscoring a potential safety issue with this type of shoe in certain situations.
