A recent theft aboard an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City on July 3 has raised alarms about in-flight security. Travelers were left dismayed after discovering that their belongings, stored in the overhead compartments, were pilfered of valuables including cash and credit cards. The unfortunate incident was witnessed by an LFG travel company employee who spoke out about the brazen “daylight robbery” on social media.
A TikTok video shared by the employee exhorts passengers to keep their valuables close at all times, rather than in the overhead bins. Footage revealed that an individual, seemingly linked to a group that routinely travels on short flights worldwide, was found tampering with passenger bags during the flight. Despite being caught red-handed trying to exit the plane swiftly upon landing, what transpired in between remains shrouded in ambiguity.
The video of the incident shows attendants retrieving cash from a sock discarded in the compartment, suggesting this as the temporary hideaway for the stolen cash. AirAsia later verified the incident when approached by AsiaOne, asserting that the cabin crew is trained to deal with security issues and that they had reported the theft to Vietnamese airport authorities upon arrival.
