In a recent announcement by the Workers’ Party (WP) on 17 July, significant changes to its Central Executive Committee (CEC) have been unveiled. Among the most noteworthy adjustments is the passing of the torch in the party’s Youth Wing, where Dr. Jamus Lim has been named the new president, taking over responsibilities from Ms. Nicole Seah.
This leadership transition comes on the heels of Seah’s resignation in July 2023, following revelations of her involvement in an extramarital relationship with Leon Perera, who has also resigned from his roles within the party.
Dr. Lim’s ascension to Youth Wing president is part of a broader reshuffling among WP’s ranks. Louis Chia is set to spearhead the party’s media team, a role previously occupied by Perera, with former Punggol East SMC MP Lee Li Lian stepping in as deputy head of media. The appointments were ratified by the CEC on 16 July.
Further enriching the committee’s composition, lawyer Fadli Fawzi has been co-opted into the CEC. Fawzi, who has a background with the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and ran as a WP candidate for Marine Parade GRC in the 2020 General Election, brings a wealth of experience to the team.
The Workers’ Party also confirmed the re-election of Mr Pritam Singh as secretary-general, with Ms Sylvie Lim as chairwoman, and veteran former chief Low Thia Khiang remains a vital member of the committee.
