Residents of an HDB block in Ang Mo Kio experienced a hazardous situation when pots and dishes were recklessly thrown from the high-rise on two consecutive days. The Ang Mo Kio Police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the individual responsible for these perilous actions.
The affected building, situated close to the Ang Mo Kio Central, is a towering 25-story residential block located at Block 700A Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6. Disturbingly, the edifice houses a kindergarten on its ground floor, raising concerns over the safety of young children.
Mr. Wang, a 57-year-old real estate agent who resides on the second floor of the block, shared with Shin Min Daily News the unsettling details of his experience. The sequence of events began on Wednesday, 10 July, with soil descending from above around 2pm. This was followed by the descent of pots at approximately 4pm and again at 6pm. On Thursday, 11 July, during the afternoon, the cascade of objects continued with ceramic dishes plummeting to the ground.
The gravity of the situation was not lost on Mr. Wang, whose apartment’s proximity to the ground allowed him the audible acknowledgment of every object as it made impact with the asphalt and grassy areas around the building.
Police responded vigilantly, cordoning off an area around the base of the block on Wednesday. Officers, equipped with gear for evidence collection, canvassed the area for clues and debris. Their investigation continued the next day, with a meticulous floor-by-floor inquiry amongst the residents.
One top-floor resident recounted that police had interrogated him regarding his own pots, all of which were accounted for. Meanwhile, Mrs. Chen, another resident, only became aware of the commotion on Thursday and noticed mud splatters on the pavement.
The police force’s commitment saw them returning to the scene on consecutive days, expanding their search to include neighboring buildings as part of their thorough investigation. Confirming the ongoing inquiry, the police urge the public to come forward with any relevant information.
As unease lingers amongst the community, residents earnestly hope for the swift capture of the offender. Mr. Wang took proactive steps, stationing himself at a nearby block in hopes of identifying the perpetrator, while Mr. Chen expressed relief that no injuries had resulted thus far. The sentiment of apprehension is shared by Ms. Zheng, 37, who expressed fears for the children and parents frequenting the kindergarten during the risky period.
