Shoppers at Orchard Central mall were in for a shock last weekend when they spotted a live rat at Don Don Donki. The rodent was found lounging on a table within the store’s dining zone, ‘Drink Drunk Donki’, to the dismay of patrons.
Fion Khoo, an administrative executive, observed the unexpected visitor on a Sunday (14 July) afternoon around 1:30 pm while strolling through the mall with her husband. Initially mistaking it for a quirky decoration, Khoo soon realized it was a alive rat—an encounter that left her and other onlookers aghast for a full ten minutes.
Upon reporting the incident to Don Don Donki staff, Khoo noticed over half an hour later, that the rat had been removed and diners were using the table again. Staff from the store later confirmed that the rat had plunged from the ceiling and that they had since sanitized the surface area thoroughly.
Deborah Tan, the business director of the mall’s managing body, Far East Organization, stated prompt measures were taken to deep clean and disinfect the affected area after being informed about the rodent sighting at around 2:20 pm the same day.
Continued vigilance in pest control practices was ensured by the management in coordination with mall tenants. Meanwhile, the Singapore Food Agency has been notified and is currently investigating the situation.
