The world-ranked No. 20 player also emerged victorious against refugee Dorsa Yavarivafa on July 27, progressing as the leader of her group at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena. The 25-year-old Singaporean is set to face a challenging match against Japan’s Aya Ohori, ranked 10th, on August 1. Yeo aims to secure her first win against Ohori after three previous encounters in hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals.
In the men’s singles category, Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, ranked 13th in the world, is scheduled to compete against Uriel Canjura from El Salvador, who holds the 50th spot worldwide, on July 31. A victory for Loh would not only secure his leadership in Group M but also pit him against China’s Li Shifeng, ranked 6th globally, in an eagerly awaited round of 16 clash on the following day.
However, Singapore’s journey in the mixed doubles category came to an early end. The duo of Terry Hee and Jessica Tan, ranked 17th, concluded their Olympics campaign on July 29 after finishing third in Group D. Only the top two teams from each of the four groups advanced to the quarter-finals.
With these achievements, Singapore’s representation in the international badminton arena is stronger than ever.
