A 33-year-old woman was taken into custody at Woodlands Checkpoint on Tuesday for her audacious attempt to seize the revolver of an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer.
The incident unfolded around 3:40pm on Tuesday when a distress call was made to the Singapore Police Force seeking assistance at the checkpoint. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had sought entry into Malaysia but was denied access, prompting her to arrive at Woodlands Checkpoint.
Upon reaching the checkpoint, she was directed to the ICA duty office for secondary checks. It was during this process that she made a daring move to reach for the ICA officer’s revolver. Fortunately, swift action was taken and she was promptly apprehended by the authorities.
The woman is set to face charges on Thursday for attempted unlawful possession of firearms. In the event of a conviction, she could face a sentence of five to 10 years in prison. Notably, the offence also carries a penalty of at least six strokes of the cane. However, as stipulated by law, she cannot be subjected to caning due to her gender.
This incident at Woodlands Checkpoint serves as a stark reminder of the stringent security measures in place to safeguard against potential risks and threats at border controls.
