A teenager in Singapore has been sentenced to 18 months’ probation after being caught taking photos of male victims in public toilets. The 20-year-old culprit, who remains unnamed due to committing some offenses as a minor, admitted to secretly capturing images of unsuspecting individuals in men’s restrooms over a period of seven months. His actions were discovered when a father using a toilet at Parkway Parade, accompanied by his young son, caught the teenager in the act.
The young man, a student and part-time shop employee at Parkway Parade, used his phone to take photos of 28 different male victims in cubicles adjacent to theirs. His behavior was driven by a desire to “experience the thrill” rather than targeting specific individuals. However, on December 11, 2021, his actions were brought to light when he attempted to capture photos of the father and son duo using the restroom.
Upon spotting the teenager’s actions, the father promptly sought assistance from a security guard, leading to his apprehension and subsequent arrest by the police. A total of 101 images, featuring 30 male victims including the father and son, were found on the culprit’s phone. As part of his sentencing, the offender is required to abide by a curfew from 11pm to 6am, unless exceptions are approved.
In addition to probation and community service, the teenager’s uncle and aunt-in-law provided a bond of S$5,000 to ensure his compliance with the terms of his sentencing. As part of his rehabilitation, the teenager will also undergo treatment for his sexual offending behavior.
