Police in Singapore are currently investigating a troubling case of a student from Qihua Primary School being subjected to physical abuse by another student, as captured in a distressing video circulating online.
The video, which has been widely shared on messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, depicts a teenage boy in a black T-shirt and jeans assaulting a younger student in the school’s uniform. The violence escalates as the victim is repeatedly punched, kicked, and thrown to the ground in a stairwell by the aggressor.
During the ordeal, the teenager can be heard ordering the frightened boy to apologize and threatening him with further violence. The victim is seen tearfully pleading for forgiveness, saying “sorry, sorry I won’t do it again” as he endures the verbal and physical abuse.
The incident, which remains undated, has sparked outrage and concerns about the prevalence of bullying in schools. This distressing event is the second such incident to have emerged recently, following a separate video involving a student from Bukit View Secondary School facing similar mistreatment.
Reacting to these incidents, the Ministry of Education has reiterated its commitment to addressing bullying in schools, emphasizing the need for thorough investigations, disciplinary actions, and emotional support for both victims and perpetrators.
In a statement, the ministry affirmed, “When there are reports of alleged cases of bullying, schools will conduct investigations to understand the underlying causes of behaviour and take appropriate disciplinary action to help students understand the consequences of hurtful behavior and restore relationships with those affected. Counseling support will be provided to guide the perpetrator and support the victim.”
These distressing incidents underscore the critical importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment within educational institutions to prevent such acts of violence and ensure the well-being of all students.
