Two men tragically lost their lives after a devastating fire engulfed Synergy@KB, an industrial building located in Kaki Bukit. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) swiftly responded to the emergency on Thursday afternoon (Sep 19). The SCDF indicated that the fire originated in a unit on the building’s fifth floor, resulting in the entire floor being filled with thick smoke.
According to the SCDF’s Facebook post, during their rescue operation, firefighters discovered two individuals unconscious in a unit adjacent to the one that was ablaze. Despite the valiant efforts of the SCDF emergency medical services personnel who administered CPR, both individuals were rushed to Changi General Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The Singapore Police Force confirmed that the victims, aged 51 and 65, passed away as a consequence of the fire.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, despite the loss of life, the police have ruled out foul play based on initial investigations, as the SPF stated, “Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.”

The harrowing incident stirred up distress among tenants of the industrial building. Mr. Jordan Alsagoff, the owner of a carpentry factory situated on the sixth level, recounted how his workers raised alarm over individuals trapped on the fifth and sixth floors. Mr. Alsagoff shared, “I heard from my workers who were taking a nap at the factory after lunch … They called me and said: ‘Boss there’s smoke coming in from the window.’ So I told them to close the windows, turn off the power, shut the place down and leave.” Fortunately, his quick actions ensured the safety of his employees as they were among the first to evacuate the building unharmed.
The SCDF successfully managed to extinguish the fire using two water jets to bring the situation under control.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson from SCDF expressed, “The SCDF extends our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.”
