“In court on Monday (Sep 2), a prosecutor asserted that the woman who accused Ken Lim Chih Chiang of sexually inappropriate remarks had no motive to fabricate the allegations against him,” the report stated.
The article reported that Ken Lim, known for his role at Hype Records and as a Singapore Idol judge, is facing trials over alleged sexual remarks dating back to 1998 and a molestation accusation in 2021. He has denied all seven allegations made by five women.
The ongoing trial focuses on a charge related to insulting the modesty of a woman in 2012. The woman claimed that Lim made inappropriate remarks at a car park at Hype Records, leading her to report him to the police in 2023 after learning about his initial court charges.
Lim’s defense team previously argued that the woman, an aspiring singer-songwriter, may have held a grudge due to his criticism of her music and aspiring career. Lim refuted the claims, calling them “blatant lies” during his testimony.
During the cross-examination by Deputy Public Prosecutor Sruthi Boppana, Lim claimed that the woman harbored a grudge against him. He also agreed with Boppana’s suggestion that she “took advantage” of reports made by other women and “jumped on the bandwagon” to accuse him. Boppana argued that the defense’s claim of a grudge meant the woman had been “plotting” against Lim for over a decade, to which Lim contested.
The prosecutor highlighted the woman’s actions in reporting Lim’s behavior to multiple individuals from 2012 to 2013, including her sister, father, and then-boyfriend. Lim disputed that the woman’s statements to these witnesses implicated him in any sexually inappropriate comments, asserting that reading the woman’s blog posts was necessary to understand the situation.
In response to Boppana’s claim that his view of the woman bearing a grudge was “so unbelievable,” Lim attributed his choice of words in his police statement to his multiple meetings with the investigation officer, adding that he believed the officer aimed to charge him with as many accusations as possible.
Boppana challenged Lim’s assertion, asserting that the woman continued with the investigation process and testified about the incident because she was telling the truth. Lim disagreed with this statement, indicating he completely disagreed with her perspective.
The trial will continue, with Lim being represented by Senior Counsel Tan Chee Meng, Mr. Paul Loy, Mr. Calvin Ong, and Mr. Samuel Navindran of Wong Partnership.
If convicted of insulting a woman’s modesty, Lim could face up to a year in jail, a fine, or both.
