Qoo10 to Suspend Payment Services

MAS Orders Qoo10 to Suspend Payment Services Due to Delayed Payments to Merchants

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has directed e-commerce platform Qoo10 to suspend its payment services in Singapore amidst reports of payment delays to vendors. According to a Channel News Asia report, MAS has raised concerns over the handling of payment obligations to merchants on the platform.

MAS stated, “Qoo10 may need to engage a third party payment service provider for transactions on this platform.” The authority expressed disappointment in Qoo10’s failure to assure timely payment processing, leading to the suspension of payment services covered under the Payment Services Act.

In response to the directive, Qoo10 has been unable to offer alternative payment methods on its platform, limiting user transactions. MAS emphasized that it would review the suspension once Qoo10 demonstrates an ability to resolve payment delays and ensures customer interests are safeguarded.

Merchants experiencing payment delays are encouraged to raise their concerns with Qoo10. Should the issues persist, MAS pointed out that established processes, including civil claims in courts, are available to assist merchants in resolving commercial disputes.

This incident underscores the importance of timely payment processing to maintain trust and integrity in e-commerce platforms.
