Singaporean drivers entering Malaysia through the Woodlands checkpoint now have the option to collect their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags directly in Woodlands. This new option, in addition to the existing methods of self-collection in Johor Bahru or receiving the tag by post, provides greater convenience for Singapore motorists. The collection service will be available starting from September 18.
The VEP tag, which is required for all foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore, can be obtained at the VEP information counter in Woodlands at a cost of S$39. This fee is in addition to the RM10 (S$2.98) charged for the tag itself. TCSens, the vendor appointed by Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) to handle Singapore drivers’ queries, confirmed this new option through an appointment confirmation email sent on September 3.
Previously, drivers were only able to select Johor Bahru as the location for VEP tag collection. However, starting from September 3, Woodlands became a viable alternative and September 18 marks the earliest date for collection. The VEP information counter in Singapore is situated on the third floor of 186 Woodlands Industrial Park E5.
During the collection process, drivers who opt to collect the RFID tag in Woodlands will likely be provided with the version meant for installation on the windscreen. However, if their windscreen is deemed unsuitable, they will receive the RFID tag designed for installation on the headlamp. This procedure is similar to the process observed at the VEP collection centre in Danga Bay, Johor Bahru.
On the other hand, drivers who choose to have their RFID tag delivered in Singapore will generally receive the version intended for installation on the headlamp. It is important to note that, starting from October 1, motorists who enter Malaysia without a VEP tag may face a fine of up to RM2,000 (US$425) or a jail term of up to six months.
With the new option of collecting VEP tags in Woodlands, Singaporean drivers can further streamline their entry into Malaysia while ensuring compliance with the necessary road transport requirements.
