A fatal collision occurred on the Tampines Expressway (TPE) towards the Seletar Expressway, near the Punggol Road exit on Wednesday, 11th September, resulting in the tragic death of a 28-year-old motorcyclist. The accident took place around 10.25pm and involved a motorcycle and a truck. Despite the swift response from emergency services, the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene, as confirmed by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The aftermath of the incident was captured in a video that surfaced on Facebook on 12th September, showing the victim’s body covered with a white sheet near the back right wheel of the lorry. According to Lianhe Zaobao, the motorcyclist was trapped under the wheels of the lorry following the collision. Authorities were alerted to the incident promptly and a paramedic pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
The 42-year-old lorry driver is currently collaborating with the police to assist in investigating the cause of the tragic accident. The collision led to significant traffic disruptions on the TPE, with approximately 20 buses caught in the resulting traffic congestion. Two lanes of the expressway had to be closed by the police, causing congestion across all four lanes.
Photos circulating on social media indicated that the motorcycle involved bore a probationary P-plate for new drivers and displayed relatively minor damage. However, debris from the vehicle was scattered at the collision site. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance.
