Recently, a viral TikTok video surfaced, depicting a delivery package mysteriously moving across an HDB corridor, sparking speculation about supernatural forces at play. However, it has now been revealed that the video was actually a creative advertisement by Lazada to promote its 9.9 sale. According to the video poster, @hoosi3ryourdaddyhuh on TikTok, the eerie incident took place on August 30th at around 10:02 pm.
“The CCTV footage showed a blue package dropping from a cupboard in the corridor, seemingly on its own,” commented @hoosi3ryourdaddyhuh on TikTok. “A large, ominous shadow then glides down the wall, disappearing without a trace. The package then moves across the floor, down the corridor, and away from the camera, again seemingly by itself.”
The video quickly gained traction, garnering over 250,000 views, 4,000 likes, and close to 4,000 shares. Netizens flooded the comment section with their own theories, speculating on supernatural activity and even suggesting that the package contained “hell money.”
One TikToker, @sneakysushii, known as “Singapore’s top paranormal investigator,” posted a reaction video to the clip. In the video, he humorously labeled the ghost in the video as “naughty” and “greedy,” suggesting it was feasting during the Hungry Ghost Festival. He also called for increased patrols by the “neighborhood police watch” to catch the ghostly thief, considering its “unacceptable” actions.
After days of speculation, Lazada Singapore finally revealed that the viral video was part of their 9.9 campaign. In a comment on @sneakysushii’s video, Lazada Singapore urged netizens to search for “Lazada package CCTV” on Google. This led users to a Lazada microsite where a longer version of the video was uploaded. It was then revealed that the perpetrator behind the mysterious package movement was none other than the adorable Lazada mascot, Lazzie.
Speaking about the campaign, a Lazada spokesperson shared, “We wanted to create fun, compelling, and engaging content that resonates with audiences and cuts through the clutter of sales messaging.” By collaborating with TikTok users with expertise in the supernatural, Lazada was able to launch the campaign organically without explicitly disclosing their brand’s involvement. The spokesperson added, “We wanted this to be a more organic approach in order to generate curiosity and virality from the community.”
Overall, Lazada expressed satisfaction with the campaign’s success, stating that they aim to create more interactive content in the future to establish direct and authentic interactions with audiences.
