Bully Incident Leaves School Student Hospitalized

The incident at Meridian Secondary School on October 3rd involved a Secondary 1 student who was allegedly assaulted by a group of students at a void deck near the school. According to reports, the victim was confronted by a group of six individuals, leading to a violent altercation that left the student hospitalized with a ruptured eardrum. The father of the student, Zhou Yueliang, expressed his dismay upon learning about the attack, stating:

“I found out about the matter when the police notified me about it on Oct. 3. When she reached the void deck, six others were waiting for her… For about 20 minutes, two girls allegedly hit and slapped her, apparently under the instructions of four boys.”

The distressing incident was captured on CCTV footage at the void deck, with nine bystanders present at the scene. The victim’s father described the injuries suffered by his daughter, including bruises around her eyes and neck, and a ruptured eardrum that resulted in impaired hearing. Resolute in seeking justice for his traumatized daughter, Zhou expressed his intention to pursue legal action once progress is made in the police investigations.

In response to the incident, Meridian Secondary School’s Principal, Mohamed Razali B Abdul Hamed, confirmed that the school has taken disciplinary action against the students involved. Razali was quoted saying:

“The school has been closely monitoring the condition of the injured student and has taken disciplinary action against the students involved, including bystanders at the scene.”

The school is cooperating with police investigations, as confirmed by the police authorities. This disturbing case serves as a reminder of the repercussions of bullying behavior within school settings and underscores the importance of swift and appropriate action to combat such occurrences.
