Fire erupted at Lucky Plaza on Sunday, leading to the evacuation of twenty individuals, with two individuals being subsequently conveyed to the hospital for medical attention.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) promptly responded to the incident at 304 Orchard Road after receiving an alert at around 9:45 a.m. The source of the fire was identified as a charcoal stove in a unit situated on the sixth floor of the building, according to SCDF reports.
As stated by SCDF, quick action was taken by members of the public to douse the flames using water-filled buckets even before the SCDF’s intervention, averting a potential escalation in the situation.
SCDF reported, “About 20 people evacuated prior to the arrival of SCDF.” Additionally, two individuals were transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for further medical evaluation.
A footage shared by Mhae Moliyok on Facebook at approximately 10:40 a.m. captured SCDF personnel’s presence at the shopping mall’s entrance, alongside an ambulance stationed nearby. Amidst the alarming situation, the atmosphere seemingly remained composed as the fire alarm resonated in the background.
Jane Z Hwee Mei, another Facebook user, recounted an experience of being greeted by a pall of smoke and burnt odor while en route to a haircut appointment on the sixth floor. Subsequently, a firefighter instructed everyone in the salon to evacuate as a safety measure.
Regarding the cause of the fire, SCDF stated that an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the origins of the incident.
