Grab Mandates Five-Day Office Work Week Starting December 2

Grab Imposes Mandatory Five-Day Work Week in Office, Starting December 2

Feels like, going back to school after a long holiday…

“Grab recently announced that employees will be required to work five days a week in the office starting from December 2,” confirmed by a few existing employees to ChannelNewsAsia (CNA) on the condition of anonymity. This move comes after the company’s adoption of a hybrid work arrangement that allowed employees to work from home a few days a week.

According to employees, the decision to mandate in-office work was made to promote more collaboration and interactions in the workplace. To help employees with caregiving responsibilities adjust to the change, a one-month “adjustment period” has been put in place.

One employee mentioned, “They said there would be disciplinary action against those who don’t comply [with work-from-office mandates],” The company had already started tracking office access card tap-ins last year and was flagging employees with poor work-from-office attendance.

While the new policy emphasizes the importance of working from the office, Grab has assured that flexible hours and exceptions for personal circumstances will still be accommodated. The shift to a full work-from-office policy aligns with similar decisions made by other companies, such as Amazon, which also recently announced a five-day office mandate.

As the push for in-office work gains momentum, it’s evident that companies are increasingly prioritizing the benefits of physical collaboration and interaction among employees.
