Lee Hsien Yang's Sons Lead Final Send-Off for Lee Wei Ling

Dr. Lee Wei Ling’s funeral took place on Saturday (Oct 12) with her nephews, Li Huanwu and Li Shaowu, the sons of Dr. Lee’s younger brother Lee Hsien Yang, leading the final send-off. The cortege left the Singapore Casket amidst rain, heading towards Mandai crematorium, as reported by Shin Min Daily News.

Dr. Lee, the daughter of founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, passed away at the age of 69 on Oct 9 after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. Her wake commenced on Oct 10 and was attended by various dignitaries including Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean and Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat.

In a heartfelt eulogy shared on Facebook, Lee Hsien Yang remembered the cherished memories he shared with his sister, including their playful fights. He expressed his regret for not acknowledging her accomplishments more within the family and shared his appreciation for his sons’ support during the difficult time, stating, “Huanwu has been a stalwart in organising her care in my absence, and I am very grateful to Huanwu and Shaowu for being there for Ling at this time.”

Lee reiterated Dr. Lee’s wish for a simple funeral and for her ashes to be scattered at sea. He also reaffirmed his stance on demolishing their parents’ home at 38 Oxley Road, as directed by his late sister.

In closing, he bid farewell to his sister by saying, “Farewell Ling, you will always be my special big sister.”

Overall, the funeral of Dr. Lee Wei Ling was marked by touching tributes and fond memories shared by her loved ones.
