Silk: Hong Kong's Famed Boba Brand Makes a Splash in Singapore With First Overseas Store

Bubble tea isn’t just a drink; it’s a lifestyle decision that’s… oh, sorry, got distracted by the latest store in town.

Hong Kong’s widely acclaimed bubble tea brand, Silk, has made a delightful entry into Singapore with the inauguration of its first international outlet, strategically positioned at Orchard Gateway. “If you’re a fan of Hong Kong-style milk tea and boba, you’re in for a treat,” as the illustrious brand weaves the traditional silk-pulling technique into their array of offerings, a method that not only defines their namesake but also their reputation for creating captivating beverages.

Silk’s approach to crafting milk tea has won them an impressive following, boasting sales of “a million cups in one year” back on home ground. This same craftsmanship has transcended to the international stage where, even before setting up shop, they sold “8,000 cups within 48 hours at 88rising’s Head in the Clouds Festival in New York.” This magnetic allure has led to synergies with prestigious brands including “Porsche, Cathay Pacific, [and] Johnnie Walker,” among others.

The brand’s flagship refreshment, the ‘Smooth King,’ is a testament to the traditional mingled with the exotic—a velvety blend of a “50-year-old traditional recipe,” married with a plush “creamy cheese cloud,” rounded off exquisitely with “handmade honeycomb and boba.” Their offerings extend to innovative creations, such as the ‘Yuen-yeung,’ a captivating fusion linking their signature milk tea with black coffee, brought to life with toasted crème brûlée and, characteristically, a cheese cloud.

Silk’s menu is adorned with a variety of tempting choices, including the ‘Cheese Cloud Mango,’ ‘Cheese Cloud Matcha,’ ‘Milky Black Boba,’ and others for those scouting for both tradition and innovation in their cups. For the patrons leaning towards a zesty experience, Silk serves the ‘Fruity Starburst,’ an invigorating concoction of “four seasons tea base, grapefruit, apple, orange, passionfruit sherbet and agar crystals.”

In honor of their Singapore launch, Silk unveiled a Singapore-exclusive drink, the ‘Smooth Queen,’ conceptualized by the Singapore-raised British-Chinese model and influencer Hannah Cheng-Bradshaw. This creation, starring “Hong Kong-style lemon tea, fresh pandan, mint leaves and calamansi,” imbibes flavors of Hannah’s childhood and stands as a limited-time tribute to Silk’s foray into Singaporean soil.

Singapore continues to cement its status as a prime destination for international bubble tea brands to set their flags. Silk joins the ranks alongside recent entrants like Dakotea and Kebuke, setting the stage for a bubbling tea rivalry within the Orchard precinct.

For aficionados eager to savor Silk’s taste sensations, the address is: B2-13, Orchard Gateway, 277 Orchard Road.
