“More details have emerged since the shocking Clementi stabbing on Monday (21 Oct). According to The Straits Times (ST), the victim was involved in grassroots activities of the Trivelis Residents’ Network, which serves the Trivelis estate in Clementi Avenue 4. This was confirmed by PA in a statement released on 22 Oct.”
A 50-year-old suspect was arrested by the police, while the 41-year-old victim was identified to be Mr Winson Khoo, who was reportedly the vice-chairman of the Trivelis Residents’ Network. Eyewitnesses said Mr Khoo collapsed after being stabbed repeatedly. The attacker then tried to drive away but was blocked by a police car.
“With the consent of the family of the deceased, we confirm that the deceased was a grassroots volunteer. The PA grassroots network and the Grassroots Advisor are deeply saddened by his demise,” PA stated. “More information about his service to the community will be shared in remembrance during the funeral wake, which will commence on 23 October.”
“At present, it’s unclear how the pair had known each other. Speaking to MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed receiving a call for assistance at about 5 pm. Mr Khoo was conveyed unconscious to NTFGH, where he succumbed to his injuries.”
“In social media posts, Ms Sim Ann, MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC expressed shock and sadness over the incident. The police have urged the public to refrain from speculation. PA said that the family ‘are deep in grief and do not wish to entertain requests for media interviews’. It also asked members of the public not to forward or share graphic footage or images of the incident.”
The Clementi community mourns the loss of Mr. Khoo, a dedicated grassroots volunteer, in this tragic incident. The details surrounding the attack are still unfolding, and it is crucial for the public to respect the privacy and wishes of the grieving family during this difficult time.
