Poor chicks.. 🥺🥺🥺
Late last month, a local animal welfare organisation found 106 live quail chicks in Lim Chu Kang. Abandoned inside a bin like garbage, none of them survived. The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society of Singapore (ACRES) shared in a Facebook post on Sunday (3 Nov) night, the frustrating find made by its team. According to the post, a concerned member of the public called ACRES’ wildlife rescue hotline after hearing chirping sounds from a green bin in Lim Chu Kang.
When ACRES arrived, they found a quail chick on top of a black trash bag, with more chirping sounds heard from below. Upon investigation, it was discovered that 106 live chicks were inside the bag. ACRES also recovered a significant number of unhatched eggs, spread out covering a large area of ground, along with the motionless carcasses of chicks that seemingly died shortly after they hatched. Sadly, despite ACRES’ best efforts, none of the chicks survived. The group has filed a case with the National Parks Board to investigate the abandonment of the fertilized quail eggs and chicks.
“We did this so that the authorities can investigate how and why the large number of fertilised quail eggs and chicks were left in a bin,” stated ACRES in its Facebook post. The organisation also expressed gratitude towards the caller for alerting them to the case.
