Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence presents an opportunity for all citizens to reflect on their shared values and work towards a collective future, emphasized Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the People’s Association (PA) Community Club Management Committees (CCMC) 60th anniversary dinner at One Punggol on Monday (Nov 4).
In Mr. Wong’s words, “Next year we will mark 60 years of Singapore’s independence. It will be Singapore’s 60th birthday.” He highlighted the significance of this milestone and the planned series of programs and events to commemorate the occasion.
PM Wong stated, “SG60 should not just be about celebration. It is and should be an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our shared values, who we are as Singaporeans and what we stand for.” He urged Singaporeans to use this milestone as an opportunity to renew their commitment to Singapore and unite in building a shared future together.
Expanding on this, Mr. Wong expressed, “It should be an opportunity for us to renew our commitment to Singapore, to do our part to build our shared future together.” The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) also revealed that the year-long activities will revolve around the theme “Building Our Singapore Together”, aiming to foster greater community engagement and contribution from all segments of society.
The celebrations will encompass various events such as Chingay, Exercise SG Ready, Singapore World Water Day, Racial and Religious Harmony Month, the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, and the World Aquatics Championships, emphasizing the nation-building journey and shared values of multiculturalism, boldness, resilience, and openness.

In organizing youth engagements through the SG60 Youth Engagements initiative, the National Youth Council (NYC) and PA hope to provide platforms for young Singaporeans to voice their aspirations and share ideas on contributing to the nation’s progress. Additionally, the Founders’ Memorial’s “Project Citizens – The First Million” initiative aims to capture stories by Singapore’s founding generation, preserving the nation’s values and history for future generations.
As part of the SG60 festivities, the National Day Parade (NDP) will be held at the Padang, featuring traditional favorites such as the mobile column, aerial display, and fireworks. To ensure wider participation, the NDP celebrations will also extend to the Marina Bay area and the heartlands, with events at schools, Institutes of Higher Learning, and overseas Singapore communities.
Furthermore, during the event, PM Wong acknowledged the valuable role of the Community Club Management Committees (CCMCs) in addressing community needs and fostering unity among residents. He announced the launch of Community Innovation Spaces across 10 community clubs to encourage the development of innovative solutions for local challenges.
In conclusion, the upcoming SG60 celebrations serve as a moment for Singaporeans to come together, reflect on their shared values, and actively contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
