Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulates Mr. Donald Trump on winning the United States presidential election. In a letter to the president-elect, Mr. Wong wrote:
“I extend my warmest congratulations on your election as the 47th president of the United States of America. The American people have given you an overwhelming mandate and placed their trust in you to lead the US again. I am confident that under your stewardship, the US will continue to grow and exercise its global leadership role.”
Mr. Wong also extended his congratulations to Mr. Trump’s running mate JD Vance, and expressed his confidence in the future growth and global leadership of the US. In a message on Facebook, Mr. Wong stated:
“Singapore stands ready to work closely with you and your administration to advance our bilateral ties and to further strengthen the US’ partnerships in the Asia Pacific.”
He also invited Mr. Trump to return to Singapore, noting that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, which has significantly benefited both countries. In addition, Mr. Wong highlighted the progress made during Mr. Trump’s first term in areas such as defense, the economy, and trade, expressing his eagerness to enhance the partnership even further.
During a two-day visit to Indonesia, Mr. Wong spoke optimistically about the future collaboration opportunities with the US, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and America’s partnerships in the Asia Pacific region. He emphasized America’s role as the largest source of foreign direct investments in Southeast Asia, and highlighted the significance of America’s security presence in providing stability for the region.
