The water supply to 20 units of an HDB block in Woodlands was cut off for more than one day, leading residents to resort to unconventional methods to meet their basic needs. According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred at Block 687B Woodlands Avenue 75, where taps ran dry on Tuesday at approximately 1pm:
The taps started to dry up at about 1pm on Tuesday (12 Nov) at Block 687B Woodlands Avenue 75, reported Shin Min Daily News.
Residents had to cope with the sudden water shortage, with some choosing to shower at a nearby swimming pool as a workaround:
“Thus, he drove his family of seven to a nearby swimming pool for a shower”, he said.
In the absence of a reliable water supply at home, residents resorted to filling buckets from taps at the base of the block:
Shin Min reporters who arrived at the scene on Tuesday night saw entire families with buckets and trollies filling up water from taps typically used by cleaners at the foot of the block.
The inconvenience caused by the water supply disruption extended beyond residential units, affecting a kindergarten operating on the first floor of the block as well:
Besides residents, the water supply to a kindergarten on the first floor was affected, though it was operating as normal on Wednesday morning.
Despite efforts to rectify the situation by local authorities, the restoration of water supply was not expected until around 5 pm the following day, leaving residents and the kindergarten reliant on alternative water sources:
However, workers told Shin Min that the water supply might not be restored until about 5pm — more than one day after it was cut off.
This unexpected disruption highlights the importance of reliable infrastructure and contingency plans to mitigate the impact on residents when faced with such challenges.
