Food delivery rider, 25, allegedly stabbed by customer at Marsiling block, family appealing for witnesses.
The incident occurred on Dec. 22 night at the lift lobby of Block 214 Marsiling Lane. According to the delivery rider’s older brother, known as Daniel, “the alleged assault took place at around 10:30pm on Sunday.” The customer had requested a S$33 change in cash, but things took a violent turn when the customer arrived at the lift lobby with a knife and allegedly stabbed the delivery rider in the abdominal area.
Against all odds, the delivery rider bravely tried to defend himself with his helmet, but the customer’s attack was relentless. Despite the injury and the harrowing 45 minutes with the knife in his stomach, the delivery rider managed to pin down the customer until help arrived. He was then taken to Woodlands Health Campus for surgery and is currently in recovery.
Other than the physical injury, Daniel mentioned that his brother was deeply traumatized by the incident, as delivering food had been his main source of income for the past three years. In light of ongoing police investigations, Daniel’s family is appealing for witnesses to come forward with any video footage of the event.
Reinforcing the importance of safety, Daniel emphasized, “If customers would like to pay cash, they should be required to have the exact amount and not at the cost of an innocent bystander, who was just delivering food.”
In addition, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed receiving a call for assistance related to the incident, with another person conveyed to Changi General Hospital. The Singapore Police Force and Grab have also received queries and are taking measures to address the situation.
This disheartening event highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures not only for delivery riders but for all individuals in the community. Let us all pledge to uphold respect and understanding in our interactions, ensuring that such senseless violence does not recur.
