A man involved in a lift-related altercation at VivoCity has spoken up about the incident, claiming that his reaction was sparked by a dispute over his brother, a wheelchair user, being blocked from exiting the lift. The confrontation garnered attention after a video was shared on social media platforms, showing the man, Suresh Vanaz, shouting while being restrained by several men. In the video, Suresh’s brother, accompanied by a caregiver, can be seen in the foreground.

Amid the scuffle, Suresh fell to the floor and then got back on his feet to press the lift button. During the incident, a woman intervened and told him to “cool down,” to which Suresh responded by throwing a bag at one of the men who had restrained him earlier. The situation de-escalated as they disengaged, with a man in a white T-shirt trying to calm Suresh down.
In a TikTok video, Suresh explained that the conflict started when he was trying to wheel his brother out of the lift, but someone blocked them and scolded him. Suresh expressed frustration, stating, “Healing is blocked, block, block. … Give way, right?” He also recounted how a man challenged him to “settle” the matter, which escalated tensions during the incident.
Suresh also addressed the individual who posted the video, accusing her of editing it to sensationalize the incident. He urged her to share the complete story and reminded Singaporeans to be mindful when commenting on such incidents. Suresh filed two police reports, one regarding the lift altercation and another against the woman who posted the video.
In a follow-up video, Suresh revealed that he had apologized to the woman in the multicoloured shirt for throwing her bag accidentally during the altercation. He thanked supporters who sent messages and requested privacy regarding his brother, who was deeply affected by the incident.
