NTUC to Raise Retirement and Re-employment Ages Ahead of Schedule in 2025

NTUC Announces Earlier Implementation of Higher Retirement and Re-employment Ages by 2025

The retirement and re-employment ages for all National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) employees will be raised ahead of the national schedule, starting from January 1, 2025. This move is in line with NTUC’s commitment to age-inclusive employment practices. According to NTUC, the retirement age will be raised to 64, and the re-employment age to 69, aiming to support older employees in remaining active in the workforce.

NTUC has stated that the decision to raise the retirement and re-employment ages early will benefit approximately 448 employees in terms of retirement age and around 271 employees for re-employment age. This proactive measure falls in line with the government’s plan to gradually increase the retirement age in Singapore to 65 by 2030, with re-employment age to be extended to 70 by the same year.

In a statement, NTUC emphasized its commitment to supporting older employees by engaging them early in discussions about their re-employment and retirement plans. It was highlighted that older workers will be provided with training opportunities to help them stay relevant, and their employment benefits and salary will remain consistent upon re-employment, except in cases of mutual agreement on job scope changes.

NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng stressed the importance of providing meaningful employment opportunities for older workers, stating, “We care for our older workers and can’t do without them – their wealth of experience, dedication, and resilience are invaluable in driving our economy forward and shaping a stronger Singapore.”

Responding to the early raising of the retirement and re-employment age ceiling, NTUC worker Mr. Lee Teck Yeow, 63, expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s encouraging to know that I can continue to be a valuable part of my team here.”
