In a heartbreaking incident that has captured public attention, a pet groomer has been charged with causing unnecessary pain and suffering to a corgi named Fendi, resulting in the dog’s tragic death at the grooming salon Pawkins SG in Serangoon Central.
According to reports, Vanessa Chiu Yan Er, 29, was charged with failing to secure the corgi properly, leading to a distressing outcome. The incident, which occurred on July 24 at about 1.45pm, saw Fendi slipping off the table and being left hanging by its neck from a leash unattended for an extended period, ultimately leading to its demise.
The case is scheduled to be heard in court on January 15, 2025.
As per the information shared, anyone found guilty of such an offense can face penalties of up to two years in jail or a fine of up to S$40,000 (US$29,700), or both.
The distressing event was brought to light thanks to closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that surfaced on social media, showing the corgi left unattended and eventually hanging from its neck on a grooming arm. The video, timestamped, depicted the harrowing moments before a staff member discovered the dog’s lifeless body.
In response to the incident, the National Parks Board (NParks) launched an investigation, stating that it was looking into the circumstances that led to the dog’s untimely death.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) also commented on the tragedy, emphasizing the necessity for “stronger legislation” in animal welfare.
Pawkins SG expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident involving Fendi, highlighting the distress felt by all parties involved.
