Rojak Stall Refunds Customer Who Accidentally Overpaid by S$90

Chinatown Rojak Stall's Quick Refund

Salute..🫡🫡🫡

“When a customer accidentally overpaid at a Chinatown rojak stall, the stall owner promptly refunded the difference. Better yet, the refund was processed without requiring the customer to return to the stall,” said Victor Goh, owner of Crispy Rojak in Chinatown Complex.

In a post on the Hawkers United – Dabao 2020 Facebook group, Mr. Goh shared that an unknown customer had patronized his stall on 10 Dec. The customer purchased a S$10 portion of rojak but mistakenly paid S$100 via NETS QR.

“Refund processed without need for personal visit,” stated Mr. Goh. He also posted an email he sent to NETS on 12 Dec, enquiring about how to refund S$90 to the unknown customer. Fortunately, he managed to figure out the process and informed the customer through his post that the refund was “on the way”. The customer did not even need to visit the stall personally to resolve the matter.

“Netizens applauded Mr. Goh’s honesty, wishing him good business and pledging to support his stall,” the article elaborated. “One commenter expressed surprise that a unilateral refund via NETS was possible, as other cases often required appeals to locate overpaying customers.”

In another similar incident in March, a customer accidentally paid S$700 for a S$7 meal at a food stall in Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre. The stallholder posted on Facebook in an attempt to locate the customer, providing a contact number for them to get in touch. It was later revealed that the customer had transferred the amount via PayLah. Eventually, the customer’s brother reportedly visited the stall to collect the balance of S$693.
