Vivian Hsu’s Ordeal in the Bukit Timah Flood

Celeb Vivian Hsu's Dramatic Encounter with Bukit Timah Flood

Taiwanese singer Vivian Hsu found herself in the midst of chaos when heavy rain and flooding hit Bukit Timah on Sunday. In a harrowing account shared on Instagram, she described the heart-stopping moment her car became stuck on the road.

“My car [was] about to be submerged, with the floodwaters almost up to its doors… Even cockroaches and lizards had climbed onto the car to flee the influx.” – Vivian Hsu

Initially out with friends on what seemed like a routine rainy day, Hsu’s outing took a dramatic turn when a sudden downpour struck, leading to unforeseen flooding. Despite the risks, she braved the elements to safeguard her vehicle, capturing the frantic moments on video.

“Thus, despite the likelihood of being drenched, Hsu decided to rush to her car to ‘save’ it.” – Vivian Hsu

Following a tumultuous effort to extricate themselves, Hsu and her companion found their car stranded on the main road, surrounded by the chaos of submerged vehicles and floating debris.

A clip she posted, taken from inside the car, showed that the nearby Coronation Road was flooded, with an unfortunate car submerged up to its headlights. A rubbish bin then floated slowly past them, in a surreal scene.

As they waited for conditions to improve, Hsu reflected on the surreal experience, highlighting the challenges they faced

“This was the first time she had felt ‘so cold’ when sitting inside a car in Singapore… Eventually she decided to brave the waters again, with another video depicting her wading through knee-deep waters with her jeans rolled up to get to the mall.” – Vivian Hsu

While Hsu eventually emerged from the ordeal unscathed and even managed to purchase Din Tai Fung for her son, she expressed concern for others affected by the flood and shared her relief at having friends by her side:

“Hsu assured fans that she was safe and thankfully had her friends with her. She hoped those who were caught in the flood like her were also safe.” – Vivian Hsu

In the aftermath, netizens expressed surprise at the incident, with discussions revolving around the impact of climate change and the unexpected challenges faced in Singapore:

“Some were surprised that such a thing could happen in Singapore, to which a netizen replied that it was due to climate change and rising water levels, which Singapore was already trying to combat.” – Vivian Hsu
