“Four Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were taken to the hospital after the fire engine they were travelling in was involved in an accident with a lorry and a prime mover on January 23,” authorities confirmed.
According to reports, the accident occurred at Sungei Kadut Street 1 in north-western Singapore at 1.45pm. A video uploaded to the Singapore Roads Accident.com Facebook page captures the aftermath of the collision, showing the fire engine among other emergency response vehicles.
The SCDF revealed that the fire engine, carrying a four-person crew, was en route back to the Sungei Kadut fire post following a response to a fire call in the area, which fortunately turned out to be a false alarm. The rescue process involved freeing one trapped officer using hydraulic rescue equipment, who along with another officer, was transported to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. The remaining two officers were taken to Woodlands Health Campus for observation.
SCDF stated that all four officers were conscious during transportation to the hospitals and are currently under observation. The officers involved in the accident are reported to be between the ages of 21 and 28, and investigations into the incident are currently underway.
