SM Lee Brings Joy to Teck Ghee Seniors with Chinese New Year Visit

Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Ang Mo Kio GRC recently brought festive cheer to the residents by visiting Teck Ghee Community Club ahead of Chinese New Year. Despite the heavy downpour, over 400 seniors from low-income households gathered on January 12 to receive red packets from him.

During the visit, SM Lee distributed red packets to each senior, containing $150 in cash and $50 in Sheng Siong supermarket vouchers, along with a bag of chicken essence and mandarin oranges. He extended his well wishes for a prosperous Chinese New Year in English, Mandarin, and Malay, and engaged in conversations with the seniors and grassroots leaders present at the event.

One attendee, Madam Sharifah, a 76-year-old resident, shared her experience of attending the event for the second time. She expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to interact with others and attend activities organized by the Teck Ghee Citizens’ Consultative Committee for the elderly. Madam Sharifah praised the quality of performances, presentation of food, and overall care for senior citizens in the area. She looks forward to attending the event again next year, health permitting.

Another participant, an 80-year-old man known as Mr. Tay, revealed that he eagerly anticipates the annual festivities every year and appreciates the invitation. Attending the event with his caregiver, Mr. Tay highlighted the importance of the gathering in his yearly calendar.

Overall, the event was a heartwarming display of community care and celebration, emphasizing the spirit of giving and togetherness during the festive season.
