Now that’s 100% dedication..
“When the fire broke out at Amoy Street Food Centre, this uncle didn’t even bat an eye – he just calmly continued working as if nothing was happening, can you believe it?”
That’s right – a video posted on Reddit showed an elderly man working at a lor mee stall in the food centre, seemingly unbothered by the large flames dangerously close to him. The stall, perched on the second floor, was almost engulfed, yet this uncle just carried on, moving his stall’s contents to safety with such composure, it was almost surreal.

Comments poured in, with netizens expressing their amazement. One netizen even compared him to the “this is fine” meme, you know, the one where the dog sips coffee while the room is on fire! Another jokingly remarked that his dishes that day would have the sought-after ‘wok hei’ flavor.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported that the fire, which they were alerted to at about 4.55 am, involved the contents of a stall in the market at 7 Maxwell Road, the address of Amoy Street Food Centre. Fortunately, about six people managed to self-evacuate before the firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
In the face of adversity, this uncle’s remarkable display of calm has left netizens astounded, proving that moments of crisis can bring out the extraordinary in people.
