The mother of a Montfort Secondary School student has come forward with shocking allegations following a viral bullying video that surfaced recently. In the video, which garnered over a million views before being taken down by Facebook, a group of boys in Montfort Secondary shirts can be seen pushing and kicking another boy in a school corridor. The boy in question was subjected to repeated physical assault, with one boy pushing him to the floor and another kicking him while he was down, to the cheers of the other boys. The victim displayed remarkable restraint by not retaliating, but the boys continued to harass him. This led to another disturbing scene where the victim was forcefully brought to the ground again, causing his shoe to come off.
The police confirmed that a report has been lodged and investigations are ongoing. Montfort Secondary’s vice-principal, Wilson Tay, stated that the school has taken disciplinary actions against the students involved in the bullying incident. He emphasized the school’s zero-tolerance policy towards bullying and violence, asserting that the safety and well-being of all students are paramount.
However, the mother of the victim, Joleen Wee, revealed that the video only captured the aftermath of a more severe incident that took place in a stairway before the bullying incident. She alleged that her son was strangled and beaten by the perpetrators, which led to the events depicted in the video. Ms. Wee also shared photos showing marks on her son’s neck, highlighting the severity of the physical harm inflicted.
Expressing concern over the school’s handling of the situation, Ms. Wee voiced her distress about her son’s trauma and the impact on his well-being. She pointed out that her son has developed a fear of going to school and interacting with friends, raising fears of potential depression. Demanding transparency and concrete actions from the authorities, she underscored the urgency of addressing the incident with due seriousness:
“I don’t want diplomatically correct answer like ‘the students have acknowledged that their behaviors were wrong and have expressed remorse’.”
The gravity of the situation is underscored by Ms. Wee’s assertion that she may resort to legal action if the matter is not addressed appropriately. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive issue of bullying in schools and the critical importance of addressing it promptly and effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
