Moses Lim died on 11 February 2025. His Facebook page announced his passing with a tribute.
Lim, born on 13 December 1949, grew up in a family of 12 children who spoke the Henghua dialect.
He studied at Catholic High School (primary), Maris Stella High School (secondary), and Anglican High School (pre-university). After that, he took commerce at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
He spoke English, Mandarin, Malay, and several Chinese dialects, including his family’s Puxian Min.
In 1994, Lim joined the cast of “Under One Roof” as Tan Ah Teck, a minimart owner. The show made history as Singapore’s first English sitcom, and gained fans overseas.
His character’s line “This reminds me of a story” became famous. His acting won him the Best Male Actor in a Comedy at the 1996 Asian Television Awards – a first for a Singaporean actor.
Lim also hosted “Comedy Nite” with Jack Neo. He acted in movies like “Just Follow Law” (2007) and “Our Sister Mambo” (2015).
In 2018, he had heart surgery that led to problems. He needed three months to recover and used a crutch to walk.
Doctors found he had a slow pulse rate in 2022 and suggested a pacemaker. Lim said no because of his previous surgery issues. Six months later, doctors checked and found his condition had improved, backing his choice to skip the pacemaker.
