“49-year-old police officer sustains head & wrist injuries after being attacked in Whampoa,” the Singapore Police Force (SPF) reported on Sunday. This incident unfolded as officers from Tanglin Police Division confronted a 41-year-old man who turned aggressive and assaulted the officer with a baseball bat. The officer, who sustained head and wrist injuries, was discharged after two days of medical leave.
The suspect will face charges for two offenses on Monday, which include attempted voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty. The man is also under investigation for three possible offenses, including criminal intimidation, causing hurt by an act which endangers the personal safety of others, and intentionally causing harassment.
In response to the incident, the SPF reiterated their “zero tolerance” policy towards acts of violence against police officers, emphasizing that they will take firm actions against those who endanger the safety of law enforcement personnel.
