The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will activate the “Important Message” signal through its Public Warning System (PWS) sirens across Singapore on 15 February 2025 at 6:20 PM.
The one-minute exercise helps the public recognize PWS signals and learn appropriate responses.
The signal will also sound for 20 seconds on smartphones with the SGSecure mobile app if notifications are enabled, along with a text message about the PWS activation.
SCDF has asked the public to tune in to local radio stations or Mediacorp TV channels when they hear the siren for a PWS message.
Total Defence Day marks Singapore’s surrender to Japanese forces in 1942. The day highlights Singapore’s six defense pillars: Military, Civil, Economic, Social, Digital and Psychological Defence.
The PWS system warns Singapore of attacks and disasters through three distinct signals:
- The “Alarm” signal directs civilians to shelters during air raids or shelling
- The “All Clear” signal indicates threats have passed
- The “Important Message” signal prompts people to check radio or TV broadcasts
SCDF states the PWS alerts the public about threats from air, land, sea, as well as natural and man-made disasters.
