NTUC’s Company Training Committee Initiative
You should know by now that it’s important to upskill.
NTUC has consistently championed for more support for workers to upskill, and here’s the good news: The Government answered NTUC’s call during their pre-budget media session for additional support to scale up the Company Training Committee (CTC) initiative, and therefore, more funds will be added to the NTUC’s CTC Grant.
The CTC help companies conduct more employer-led training that leads to formal qualifications.
With over 2,700 CTCs formed, NTUC has helped over 7,400 workers secure better wages, career pathways, and skills allowances. Nearly 200,000 workers have benefited from training, with wage increases averaging 5% above annual increments.
To scale up these efforts, the Government has progressively supported NTUC, including a $100 million CTC Grant in 2022 and a new $200 million boost in Budget 2025.
This means you’ll have more chances to upskill!
SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme
What if you want to upskill yourself?
You can do it yourself.
In case you’re not aware, the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme is a programme for Singaporeans 40 years old and above, whereby they’ll have a top-up of $4,000 of SkillsFuture Credit or they can get subsidies when they study for a full-time diploma. They’ll also get an allowance if they study full-time.
During Budget 2025 statement, it’s announced that even if they study part-time, they’ll also get a $300 allowance!
And that’s not all.
The SkillsFuture benefits will now extend to lower-waged workers aged 30 and above, with the Workfare Skills Support program adopting the same model to provide similar advantages.
This means eligible Singaporeans under the Workfare Skills Support who opt for approved full-time courses will now receive up to 50% of their average monthly income, while part-time learners will receive $300 monthly!
Getting money to study; who doesn’t love that?
Initiatives for Senior Workers
What if you’re a senior?
Thankfully, NTUC has been advocating for new measures to support seniors who like to continue working, and they’re now thanking the Government for responding to their calls as there are going to be more support for seniors.
For a start, the CPF contribution rates for workers aged 55 to 65 will increase 1.5 percentage points in 2026.
If you want to work more, no worries: The Senior Employment Credit (SEC) will be extended until 2026, so business will be more inclined to engage more seniors.
In additional, later this year, MOM will bring together a Tripartite Workgroup on Senior Employment to conduct a comprehensive, long-term review of senior employment policies. The goal is to enhance job opportunities for seniors and ensure more roles align with their needs.
Job Matching Services for the Unemployed
Now, finally, what if you’re seeking for a job?
There are still good news for you: the Community Development Councils will expand their localized job-matching services nationwide, prioritizing roles within 5 km of residents’ homes, so you can find jobs that are closer to your house!
Now, of course, there are more, like the extension of the Uplifting Employment Credit, enhancement of the Progressive Wage Credit Scheme, a redesigned SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit, etc.
