Two AETOS security officers were sentenced to jail for taking unauthorized photos and videos with a service revolver at Woodlands Checkpoint in September 2024.
Mohammad Noorarman Shah Anwar and Muhammad Amali Abdul Halim were screening vehicles at Woodlands Checkpoint on 28 September 2024. Noorarman carried a service revolver as part of his duties.
At 4:30pm, Noorarman asked Amali to photograph him wearing a ski mask in a checkpoint booth. They took several photos of Noorarman posing.
The officers then filmed a video where Amali acted as a traveller approaching the booth while Noorarman pointed his loaded revolver at him through the glass.
Noorarman posted the content on Instagram Stories despite Amali’s objections. He removed the posts only after another friend advised him to do so.
An AETOS officer in charge filed a police report two days after the incident.
On 5 February 2025, Noorarman pleaded guilty to taking photos of a protected place and endangering his colleague’s safety. He was sentenced to four weeks in jail, reduced from the prosecution’s request of six to eight weeks after his lawyer cited family priorities.
Amali pleaded guilty to taking photos of a protected place. He received a one-week jail sentence, lower than the prosecution’s requested two to four weeks, due to his attempts to stop the posting and his status as a first-time offender.
District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan stated their actions violated their checkpoint security training and warranted imprisonment.
