A customer accused a Vietnamese restaurant at Vision Exchange in Jurong East of misleading pricing after purchasing beer on promotion on March 7, 2025.
The customer livestreamed his complaint on Facebook, claiming he spent $150 for 30 cans of beer and felt the pricing wasn’t transparent. He and his friends were initially attracted by promotional offers but left feeling deceived.
The 36-year-old restaurant owner, Chen, explained the establishment runs a promotion where customers who finish a beer within five seconds can win a box of 24 Vietnamese beer cans. The customer’s group included about nine people, and one person won this challenge.
According to Chen, while the winner decided to take the prize home, the group ordered additional drinks through another promotion: buying two “buckets” (five cans per bucket) of beer at $33.90 each comes with one free bucket. The group ordered four buckets plus received two free buckets, totaling 30 cans.
The pricing breakdown was four buckets at $33.90 each, totaling $135.60 before service charge. With service charge added, the final bill reached approximately $150.
The dispute arose from confusion between “buckets” (five cans each for in-house consumption) and “boxes” (24 cans given as prizes). The customers believed one bucket contained 24 cans and expected to pay only $67.80 for two portions.
When the disagreement escalated, the customer began livestreaming on Facebook. In response, Chen started her own livestream to explain the situation. The customers eventually paid the bill and left the restaurant.
