Oh Shen Leong, a 36-year-old doctor, pleaded guilty to failing to stop at a police roadblock and driving without consideration for other road users. A third charge of providing false information to police will be considered during sentencing on April 17, 2025.
The incident happened on September 9, 2023, at 3:30 AM. Oh had been at a nightclub in Clarke Quay with two friends after dinner, where he consumed multiple alcoholic drinks including wine, gin and tonic, and whiskey.
After leaving the club, Oh drove his friend Chew’s car. When he spotted a police roadblock on Tanjong Katong South Road, an officer signaled for him to stop. Instead, Oh braked, then reversed 350 meters back to East Coast Parkway to avoid the roadblock and potential breathalyzer testing.
Police later traced the vehicle to Chew and questioned all three individuals involved. During questioning, Oh gave false personal information, including a fake ID number and birth date, and claimed he was a tutor. He only revealed his true identity and occupation as a doctor when police determined the ID number was invalid.
Oh has previous traffic violations including running red lights and speeding. Prosecutors have requested a two to three-week jail sentence, citing Oh’s attempt to evade responsibility and his repeated lies to officers.
