The driver who died in the Nicoll Highway crash was Jeffrey Loh Chong Hao, a 37-year-old financial advisor and director of Chee Song Foods.
A dark blue Porsche 911 Carrera crashed at Nicoll Highway on Sunday (2 March) around 2:10 pm. The vehicle was speeding on the rightmost lane before swerving left toward the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) entrance. The car hit a road divider, flipped onto its left side, skidded into several cars, and caught fire.
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters found the driver in the burned wreckage and pronounced him dead at the scene. Shin Min Daily News reported the fire possibly started from a ruptured oil pipe after the Porsche collided with other vehicles, causing fuel leakage.
SCDF officers checked seven people from other vehicles involved in the accident. Two men, aged 53 and 66, went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment. The other five declined hospital care.
Jeffrey Loh worked as a licensed financial advisor with AIA Singapore until 2020. He served as director and one of three shareholders of Chee Song Foods, a company known for its halal-certified meat products sold under the “CS Foods” brand.
Land Transport Authority records show the Porsche involved in the crash was registered to Chee Song Foods. Mr. Loh drove this vehicle to business meetings. Previously, he drove a BMW.
Mr. Loh studied banking and finance at the Singapore Institute of Management under the University of London International Programme.
A business associate described Mr. Loh as hardworking and dedicated. An employee who worked with him for over eight years shared that Chee Song Foods was a family business operating for more than three decades.
The company was originally run by Mr. Loh’s father, who handed over the business to Mr. Loh in 2013. Under his leadership, Mr. Loh expanded the company’s overseas business and built a central kitchen that became profitable within a year.
Mr. Loh developed the company from a meat supplier for local hawkers into a wholesaler importing various food products. He also established sales, accounting, human resources, and other departments within the company.
The employee mentioned that Mr. Loh and his family were friendly. Mr. Loh had previously helped employees with flat rentals, and his father once assisted an employee with passport renewal by driving him to the embassy.
Police investigations into the crash continue.
