Police arrested a 61-year-old man for suspected drug possession following a traffic stop in Boon Lay yesterday.
The incident began when traffic officers spotted an electric scooter rider making an illegal U-turn at the junction of Boon Lay Place and Boon Lay Avenue at 11:30 AM on March 15.
When officers approached, the rider fled with a pedestrian. The 61-year-old pedestrian was caught, but the e-scooter rider escaped and remains at large.
Officers found what appeared to be controlled substances on the pedestrian and arrested him for drug-related offenses.
A large police presence was reported at Block 177 in Boon Lay around 2:00 PM, with approximately 10 officers conducting investigations. Police vehicles were also spotted at Boon Lay Community Club, about 400 meters from the apartment block.
A 56-year-old cleaner at the community club witnessed the arrest. She saw the man being handcuffed on the roadside while officers searched him and photographed items from his pockets as evidence.
Another witness, 28-year-old Mr. Tang, reported seeing officers recover a package of white powder about the size of a mobile phone from the suspect.
According to Tang, the arrested man told police he typically “collects goods” or conducts transactions in an area with surveillance cameras outside the community club.
Police investigations continue as authorities search for the escaped e-scooter rider.
